RTV or Peanut butter?

I am reassembling my '94 Evinrude 115 cross flow after a rebuild, and I noticed that the aluminum exhaust guides that bolt under the aluminum exhaust/water cover are slightly lower (approx 5-10 thousands)than the rest of the gasket surface. To seal properly, I was considering switching to the "Ultra Black" RTV instead of using the OMC compound (AKA "peanut butter") like the other gaskets. Anyone been there / done that? Thanks!

You want them slightly lower. Stick (no pun) with the OMC gasket sealer. Want to hear something funny? We found out that leaving them out picked up as much as 200 RPM on a ski boat (went from 5900 to 6100). <br />Good luck!
