RPM Range

Sorry if this has been addressed...did a search with no luck.......I just need to know the safe operating RPM of my 75 merc 850 at wide open throttle.

The prop I have on it now tops out at about 5500 RPM but I have been running it at about 4500-4800 most of the time only with small spurts of wide open because I didn't want to over rev it........Thanks in advance

I'm told that my 76 1500 inline 6 redlines at 5800rpm.
I know this is a completely different displacement, but I wouldn't be suprised if your 850 was similar.

Take this advise with a grain of salt though, because it is a different engine

The 1985 Mercury sales brouchue says: 4800 - 5500. You're propped properly
