Hi all! I have a 305 mercruiser(carborated 1999) with an alpha drive (late 80's i think). I put a new shift cable and throttle cable in when I dropped the engine into my boat a few weeks back. Engine starts up but idols around 600 and then once you give it some gas it doesnt idol back to 600. It stays around 1000. If i manually move it back then the idol will drop . That I think I can fix with an adjustment of the cable.

The problem is that the engine wont start without pushing the throttle just a fraction of an inch manually at the carb. Could this be caused by a faulty electric choke? How do you test to see if it is working?

what is the rpm the engine should be idoling at?

Thanks All!
mike
