Hello,

I bought a Suzuki DT65 (1981) a couple of weeks ago and it runs great for an oldtimer.

When I took a closer look to the electrical diagram there seems to be an option to install a tacometer (suzuki calls that a Tachometer assy).

When i checked the partlist on the net it had the status "obsolete". No big deal because so is the engine for that mather:)

question is, I have the Tacho assy installed, where do I get a tachometer and what would the specs of that meter have to be. I guess its voltagecontrolled (obvious).

Tachometer Assy Partnumber is 3420095500.

A "live" tacho would really finish the job on my winterproject.

Thanks for the input

Best chance plug into Ebay. That is my source for these items.

Taco, tachymeter, tachometer and tach, all mean the same thing. I'm not positive, but I think any generic outboard tach will work on that engine. The only thing you need to know is how may poles the alternator has. Most generic tachometers have a calibration dial on the back that can be set to match the number of pulses (not poles) generated by the alternator. A 10 pole alternator produces 5 pulses. A 12 pole alternator produces 6 pulses. The tachometer requires +12 volts when the key is on, ground, and the tach signal from the charging system. Most also have provisions for an internal light so that line would connect to any of the light circuit on any other gauge. You can get tachomters right here on iBoats.

Thanks for the input Silvertip:) Some people told me it depends on the number of cilinders (2 in this case). Refering to your explanation on the pulses I think that could overcome the problem of a tacho intended for a 4 cilinder engine being used on a 2 cilinder engine like the DT 65. I'll check the Iboatshop.

Thanks
