Rough Idle

Last weekend when I was waiting at the ramp to load back up I notice I had a bit of a rough idle. The engine would loose about 100-150RPM then kick back up. You could see it most obvous in the voltage gauge. It would be at around 12.5 at idle then kick up to 13 or so and drop back down. This is a symptom of the issue sue to the fluctuation of the RPM. .

Considering I have a MPI engine and the idiot light did not come on I can't really think of anyting besides maybe I was a bit too low on gas (had less then 1/4 tank). I put in $60 worth of gas at the fuel dock before I went out for the day and the gas that was in the tank was about 1 month old but it was fuel dock E free gas too.

If anyone has any suggestions of things I should look at the next time I am out there I would love to hear them. I know the obvious would be to put more gas in and see if she does the same thing or not.

Re: Rough Idle

It sounds like a slight misfire on a spark plug, what # plugs are in there? and when were they changed last?

If I'm not mistaken, your boat should be under factory warranty...I would take it in and have it checked out...No use in spending your money when malfunctions are covered? Just my $.02...and yes, I know taking a boat to a dealer/service can be a PITA this time of year!!!

Re: Rough Idle

I was trying to avoid bringing it to the dealer. Ill check the usiall. As for the plugs they are the original from when I bought the boat last feb. I bough the boat new. They have about 80 hours on them.

Mine will do that every once in a while but not very often. The next run after slowing down it doesn't show up. I mostly just ignore it because nothing has ever happened. My guess is the IAC might be sticking a bit or get piece of dirty or the like in it

I'm with All Dodge on this one. We Dodge guys know all too well what poor IAC sensors will do. :( IMHO carbs are easier sometimes...

I have a 5.0 efi 2001 model. It has two idle speeds. LOL. It goes from about 600 to 650 and back when it decides to. It stays solid at either rpm. No big deal. Has done this since day one. I bought it new.

This could be caused by crossfiring, arcing. Resistor spark plugs can help eliminate this by sending all that current to the plug firing tip.

Well just an update we took her out for the day on Memorial day. She was behaving just fine. I notice cars do this too. I am going to just ignore it.
