Rough idel merc

I have a 1960 merc. 9.9 just rebuilt carb and having trouble getting it to settle down. Was dying if I tried to get it to idle. adjusted (tried).<br />It is idileing rough, surging or lopeing(?) idle screw doesn't seem to smooth it out any. Any suggestions on what to do or look for????<br />Thanks in advance for the help.

did you clean the idle scres (pointy things) with 600 grit sandpaper and some wd40 sprayed on it to get the gum out? also adjust the buterfly valve.

Hey thanks for the quick reply! the needle is a new one and the carb has been throughly cleaned. As to the butterfly I can't find out how to adjust it properly. The book I have just doesn't mention it or how to adjust it????Please reply the weather is perfect and it's time to roll
