Re: Rotor Part Number??

Appreciate the above responses!

Found one in the NAPA catalog that looks very close (by the picture) under "OMC Sterndrive/Cobra". Sierra Part #: 18-5418, OE #:384735. Can any one confirm that this is the correct number?

Re: Rotor Part Number??

There are 2 types of rotors used in the V4 motors of that year.

The distributors that used battery-coil ignition had a rotor with a blade width of about 1/4". My memory says it may be # 580338, but look it up to be sure.

Manual shift V4 motors had a magneto hanging out the back, and the plug wires came out of the BOTTOM of the unit. Those used a wide blade rotor that was about 1/2". Perhaps it was part number 580260, again from memory.

They can be purchased at a Johnson dealership and they are also included in the tune-up kit # 172525 that also has points and condensor in it.

Re: Rotor Part Number??

Seahorse,

We have the 1/4" blade. The # 580338 doesn't appear in the NAPA catalog we have. Am I to interpret that as no longer available?

The tune-up kit # 172525 is what I'm planning on ordering, but oddly enough, only comes with the two sets of points and a condenser....no rotor.

The response from my iboats parts section inquiry has provided the phone number for Sierra Parts, so I guess I'll give them a call and see if they can help.

Again, thanks for the responses!

Re: Rotor Part Number??

The OMC part number of 580338 is correct for the rotor as that pertains to the battery style automotive ignition that you have on that electramatic shift V4.

The 580260 is a magneto rotor which you do not want.

The 580338 rotor is still readily available from your local dealership and would list for approximately $12.00 or so.

Should you have a problem obtaining one, I have a couple left in my remaining stock... you can contact me at my address below if it comes to that.

gb3,

According to the 2004 Evinrude/Johnson Parts and Accessory Book and the picture of it, the 172525 tune up kit includes the rotor.

Re: Rotor Part Number??

Called Sierra Marine today. Turns out the 580338 is a dealer only item. They did also check on the 18-5001 tune up kit (replaces 172525) does not come with a rotor? If I order the 172525 from the dealer, will it come with the rotor?

Closest dealer to our little town is about 3-hours away.
