I don't have a local source for Mercury/Quicksilver coolant, and I don't like paying the high shipping costs (I'm a cheapskate). West Marine has Shell Rotella ELC concentrate for $35 a gallon. With a 15% off sale and after diluting, it's about $15 a gallon.

My service manual says to use an "extended life" or "ethylene glycol" coolant. Seems to me that Rotella should be fine. Anyone have first hand experience?

Carb'd 5.7 with heat exchanger.

What about Walmart or automotive stores? The West Marine price seems a bit steep. Lots of brands of EG coolant that should be fine.

I've used all sorts of EG coolant in my Mercruiser 7.4 engines.

I was the 470 engine of that heat exchanger . I did the anti freeze coolant 60% and the distilled water 40% ...6 yrs ago that antifreeze is great ..
