got a 99 seadoo gts that I took carb off and notice rotary valve not turning when u bump the start button. I was wondering how hard is it to change the shaft out and how much would u think it would cost in parts ? motor has 143 pounds on each cyl. it has the 717 grey single carb motor. the rotary valve it self has a scratch in it kinda like sand or something got in it . ive rebuilt many of 2 stroke dirt bikes and quads but never done a seadoo.and if someone has a manual they would wanna sell let know also I have one downloaded to my phone but kinda hard to scroll threw it and see what im doin on the ski

Re: rotary valve shaft

Did someone change that engine to premix? this is usually why those valves go bad, people don't realize the rotary valve shaft needs oil. I did one of those years ago but I don't recall if I pulled the engine or not, you can get the degree wheel and new parts from s b t I recall buying my parts there also the climer repair manuals are not expensive. Often the seals between the rotary valve shaft leak oil in to the front or rear cylinder causing them to smoke like a dog after sitting for a period of time.
In any event you can remove the intake over the rotary valve easily and get a better idea of what you need.

Aight kool deal I gonna try to get motor out maybe next monday. Then I can go from there. Also will a white 587 motor fit in my 99 Gts seadoo ? Got a buddy selling a 587 for 200$ and it rinds great had it on lake last year but the hull has a crack down the middle on bottom when he went to load it and it slide off back of trailer he didn't lock front strap on so was thinking of buying that motor to put in seadoo till I get mine done or for even a back up

Re: rotary valve shaft

That motor will fit if both are pan engines, " the engines sit on a metal pan that has motor mounts" but you will probably need to swap the electronic parts that go to it also, probably just the brain. the 720 has around 85 hp and the 587 is around 55 hp. If you know how to do glass work , fixing the hull is pretty easy. it just sucks with the itching though . I cover myself with gold bond powder to minimize the glass getting in my pours.
