I do a lot of reading on these forums and they have been a great help. The dreaded has happened to my sport jet 120. Started it up to go out and it ran for about 2 or 3 min and died at the dock. Never to start again. pretty sure im not getting spark. If i just pull a plug wire, stick a good spark plug in it and touch it to the top of the plug thats still in my motor, and crank, would it show spark? (neighbor said it would but ive never seen it done like that before. Im not very mechanically inclined.)

If my testing procedure is right then i have no spark. I dont think it would be the stator because from what i understand the boat wouldnt just die, it would not restart after shutdown.

I read the checklist that is on this site and tried to unplug the wires ect. all with no luck. So i am led to believe either im lost.... or my neighbor doesnt know how to check for spark.

Any help is appreciated, my wife is having boating withdrawls!!!!

Im 90% sure i have a black stator

Never heard of that procedure , you need to pull each plug wire and put in a good plug , then ground the threads or metal area you put the wrench on to GROUND , not the top of the other plug , crank motor and check for spark . If not see the first thread (sport jet basics ) in this forum and post results along with the engine serial number . We can go from there.
