rope pull wont budge.

went to start my johnson 25 1978 yesterday first time in a couple of months, it wouldnt pull at all took the recoil of and pull rope working perfectly fine,had it serviced three months ago ?180 was starting second pull im sure it will start if it were to turn with the recoil all advice gladly taken.

I would:
Try to turn the flywheel with a wrench on the flywheel nut. If it won't turn, take out the spark plugs and look for rust, and take off the lower unit and see if it frees up the powerhead with the lower unit off. If it turns with the l.u. off, you know where the problem is. If not, I'll bet the plugs have a little rust on 'em and the motor is seized due to water intrusion from some source such as a bad head gasket or exhaust seals, etc.

That motor has a lock-out that prevents you from starting in gear. Was the motor in forward or reverse when you tried to pull it?

like the two above guys said years ago i had the same problem i thought i had it in neutral my controls said nuetral tried to pull could not turned it over pulled the top off the motor and sure enough it was in gear i had to adjust the cable if it's slightly out of adjustment it will not turn over check all that stuff out first see what happens
