This is a great resource!!..I am a rookie regarding boat maitenance so bare with me..

1. What would happen if I put too much oil in the fuel?
or too little oil?

2. If I want to start the engine in the backyard, how much water should motor be put in? (how high up the motor)..the same as it would be in a lake or just enough to cover water intake?

3. Are there any online videos on boating maitenance? I know there are some good sites for specific cars..right down to how to change a timing belt. would like to see for boating.

Thanks!

Re: Rookie questions...

Too much oil and you get smoke and carbon build up.

Too little oil and you get a fried engine.

Stick to the mix for your engine.....which is?????

If your running in a garbage can, fill the can so the water level is well above the mating line between the lower unit and midsection. DO NOT try and run the engine at WOT in a garbage can. Try not to go over 1500 rpms.

Don't know of any on line videos for boating maint. But we do have a good FAQ forum with a lot of good info in it. Only thing is, it's locked out right now until we can get it as a read only forum.

If you run it in the backyard on the water hose make sure you have the right set of muffs for the size of the motor. The bigger motors require water to be split between both intakes. Basspro.com sells the one for bigger motors for about $20.

Don't know what size motor you have?

what motor year hp if you dont't know get the model # off the transom mount. the first part of any post should be ' i have a __(year) ----(model #) ~~~~(year) engine.' this tells us up front what you have and we don't have to guess, gets you the best answers faster. good luck , and welcome to iboats.

Also if you run it on muffs, and have city water(high pressure).

Don't turn it on full blast, just a good steady flow.

Otherwise , you may end up with water leaks , that weren't there before.
