I asked my daughter what she wants for her birthday and she said:"I want an Iphone".So off I went to AT&T to buy an iphone. I was told that unless I sign a 2 year agreement they wont sell me one and was assured that nobody can buy one in the USA without an AT&T agreement. So I went to the apple store where they said "sure we'll sell you one" but the 8 gig one is phased out and we no longer carry them, if you go online you can still buy them and delivery will be between 5 and 7 days.So I go online and order one.The delivery choices are overnight or free regular USPS with 5 to 7 days delivery time upon being processed.Me thinks fine,I punch in the credit card and off go $399+sales tax to mister Apple.The next screen tells me that processing time is 10 days and then delivery is 5 to 7 days.Says I to myself With all those fancy complicators eh computers the best they can do in processing is 10 days????The next screen asks how I like my buying experience with Apple and in the special comments section I wrote "A donkey would probably deliver it a few days faster".
Now I get upset and call their complaints department and ask If I can change to overnight shipping and failing that, I wish to cancel my order because I need it before the 20th of the month as I will be using it while traveling abroad and it will be useless to me unless I get it before the 20th.The friendly female operator answers that she is very sorry but she cannot do anything for me, because I am already in the system... So I ask her "With all the power of your apple computer and the mighty key board in front of you,surely a few strokes on that keyboard can change things,can't they?" She is awfully sorry but she cannot.Is there anything else I can do for you? she asks.I answer "No you obviously cannot do very much,but I will remember this experience and that may just help me to not buy anymore Apple products".
Then came the surprize.Somebody in the customer service department did pick up on my complaint and action was taken because yesterday afternoon,2 days after my complaints, Fedex knocked on my door and delivered my Iphone overnight from Shen Zheng, China, free of shipping charge! It took an hour online and on the phone,but is worth it.
I will now send the Iphone to my daughter in Israel.She knows how to crack the code and she will have her non IT&T Iphone!!
My oldest daughter works for a high tech company. She spends half her time in Israel and the other half in Paris.
