what should the spacing on the center 2x6 bunks be so the boat centers it's self the best? I've seen some new trailers with them about 3" apart is that good or bad. My boat is a 26'starcraft islander.

Sounds ok but I would suggest contacting Starcraft themselves for recommendations as they are in the best position of knowing the boats structure and therefore the best position, widths and lengths for the bunks.

http://www.starcraftmarine.com/

butch,

I am familiar with that Starcraft hull.

I would go with four bunks. The outside bunks can and should be shorter than the inboard bunks.

The inboard bunks should be about 18" apart. A lot depends on where the strakes are located on the hull. The bunks should be just to the inside of them for best centering. They should extend to just forward of the driver position.

The outside bunks can go as close to the chine as possible and should be about 2/3 to 3/4 the length of the inboard bunks. Remember, the outside bunks will be higher, thus getting them completely wet will be a problem. That's why they should be shorter.

djohns19 is right on.... use the bunks to align the boat, with the strakes as the alignment tool... I've also got a Starcraft Islander... It's a very solid hull, that'll take it's own weight about anywhere you need to put it...
You Are using those 2X6s layed Flat, aren't you... rather than on edge ?? If so, the psi loading will be very low...

Good luck... Sounds like fun....

I have a starcraft 16 ft. css 160b and Starcraft wont answer my questions about trailering. I have a roller trailer and the boat is fiberglass. Do you think I should go with bunks? I don't have much use for Starcraft web site as they do not have any help available unless you want to buy new boat.
