I JUST GOT ANOTHER BOAT THAT HAS A ROLLER/ TILT TRAILER AND I AM NOT SURE HOW THIS WORKS. THE FIRST TIME I LAUNCHED THIS 21' CABIN CRUISER IT SLID( ROLLED) OFF THE TRAILER HIT THE RAMP TWICE AND SPLASHED DOWN AT DOCK SIDE! IT WAS SUCCESFUL IN THE FACT NOTHING HAPPENED TO THE BOAT AND IT CONINUED TO FLOAT AND WE WENT FISHING. LOADING IT WAS JUST AS GREAT. THE WINCH STRAP BROKE AS I PULLED OUT OF THE WATER AND UP THE RAMP, GOOD THING THE CHAIN WAS ON. HOW DOES THIS TRAILER WORK AND HOW DO I KEEP THE BOAT FROM ROLLING OFF WHILE I DRIVE UP A HILL??CAN I LOCK THE ROLLERS??

Re: ROLLER/TILT TRAILER HELP!!!!

Wow, that must have been quite an experience.

Much can be learned by watching fellow boaters at the launch ramp.

As with any trailer, the boat must remain attached while backing the trailer into the water. After the trailer is in the water, the winch strap can be loosened and then disconnected.

Now if you cannot launch the boat, you can release the tilt mechanism.

You should read this link:
http://www.iboats.com/cgi-bin/ubb/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=22;t=001523#000000

Normally you do not need the tilt unless the water is real shallow.

Ofcourse while towing the boat, it must be securely attached to the trailer. Use the winch and a safety chain or sbow strap at the front. Use atleast 2 transom tiedown straps.

Re: ROLLER/TILT TRAILER HELP!!!!

Go to a spring shop and fit a big spring clamp bolt and a small plate around the trailer and the tilt mechanism. This will lock it in and it will never tilt again.

or

Follow Roscoes advice and learn about it.
