Alright guys, I am going to replace my Bow Stop and I would like to ask those of you who have tried or know first hand which is a better choice. Right now I have the standard 3" V-shaped bow stop and it annoys me. I was thinking of replacing it with a roller bow stop. Which would be the best and get standard rubber or go ployurethane?

Same for the keel rollers, standard rubber or polyurethane? And is a self centering roller worth it if I have bunks? Its a glide on. Making my purchases saturday, hopefully I will have some good sound input by the time I get ready to leave. They are getting old, so might as well replace them all at once. I have never used or been on a boat that its trailer had polyurethane to see if its worth the price difference. You know, wear less, stronger material, durability? Or just look prettier!

Re: Roller Replacement preferences

It depends on what's sitting on it. Urethane splits easily. If the keel is rather sharp, I'd stay with rubber. Always use the v-shaped rollers on a drive-on

The V-block in front also helps keep the bow steady when the winch is snugged up. The V-block also does a lot more to protect the bow from the mounting bracket.

If you have adjustable bunks, adjust the front closer together than the rear. (Unless you have narrow surfaces to deal with, then parallel midway between strakes)

Ok, Bunks are not adjustable up an down, but I have a tiny bit of movement side to side. Yeah I have the V-Block and was thinking the big fat V-Roller would be nicer to have in the very front. When the boat hits the V-Block, it comes to a halt. Since its so dry and hard it doesnt allot the bow to go up the extra few inches it should. Thats why I was thinking roller stop.

Thankyou for the input on the polyurethane, I think I will stick with the standard rubber. Didnt know it would split like you say and I dont want to have to replace it due to that.

Re: Roller Replacement preferences

Hi crismarion,

I have used both the standard black robber rollers and the polyurethane rollers. I found the poly to last longer and not mar the boat. I however have a roller ser up not bunk. The trailer is now 17 yrs old and needs new rollers this spring. I am going to try the new Thero-plasticized rubber rollers this time as I'm told they last best, we'll see. This li.nk may help you decide which is best for your situation:
