Rodbolt - Youmentioned in another thread that the HPDI o2 sensor needed periodic service. <br /><br />My 120 hour 150 HPDI now has it's new LU oil, greased up, checked the plugs etc, but I am wondering about how to service the o2 sensor. <br /><br />Can you provide some details? <br /><br />Also - I removed two plugs, and they looked pretty decent - no electrode wear, and maybe a loose flake of carbon on each ground electrode. - Replace them anyway?<br /><br />BTW - I expect to run the motor every two or three weeks through the winter...<br /><br />Thanks, paxfish

hello<br /> to clean the sensor I remove the sensor and holder then remove the sensor from the holder and take a can of yamaha combustion chamber cleaner and fill the can cap with the spray and soak JUST the element part. if you dunk the whole sensor it dies. I soak my holders in the carb dip and wash them out with combustion chamber cleaner. then I spray everything dry with contact cleaner. remove the draw tube and soak it as well. also clean the carbon out of the hole in the block. there are two gasket kits for the holder to block. use your engine model # to order the correct part.<br />good luck and keep posting

while that is a good article I have found several sensors pass the flame test and not work on the boat. I have also seen erroneous results while on the muffs. all my O2 sensor tests are now done in the water. on the HPDI motors that troll for tuna at 1100 to 1600 rpm the sensor must be cleaned about every 75 hours. the ring free is now reccomened at 1 oz to 10 gallons.<br /> but for the most part a very very good tech tip.<br />we have found over the years that even though yamaha says the air/fuel is not adjusted on an HPDI,by the O2 sensor, above 1500-1800 RPM if its clogged it will cause performance problems throught the RPM range. good luck and dont forget the other filters.
