Hi,

What do you think about an Abu Garcia Ambassadeur 6000 on a medium action (maybe medium-heavy) berkeley lightining rod as a low budget but not so low quality saltwater fluke setup?

I have the chance to get a pair for father's day.

Thanks,

Great set up. The 6000 or 6500 c4 is a tough reel. I have one and it has given no problems. All my ambassadures are the dark blue version.

That will be a great setup. My wife won't even let me use hers.

I would spend a little extra money and go with the 6600 D5. I'd also take a hard look at matching that reel up with a 7' Bionic Blade rod from The Bass Pro Shop

Re: Rod and Reel question

Got them today. Looked them over again, I've never had a problem with Abu's before and I own a few, including a 5500 and a couple spinners. They've always been my freshwater setups, though.

The lightning rod is a 7' Medium-Heavy IM6, with all stainless eyes and guides. So I expect it to fare well with the right care (aka washdown after use).

Gotta go spool them up now and maybe break them in tomorrow!

:D :D

Happy early father's day!
