Rocker Arms

Hi,

I posed this question as part of another thread but it may have gotten lost.
What's the best way to clean up residual rust on rocker arms? The original water problem is repaired. They are not totally rusted just a few surface spots in various places, all contact points are clean. I am concerned that muriatic acid may etch the mating surface which contacts the fulcrum. Should I just "polish" them up with a dremel? Any other suggestions? I thought I may just leave them but I would think that would leave it prone to debris in the valves.

Thanx,
Doug

Re: Rocker Arms

Just touch them up with a little Scotch-brite pad or some fine emery cloth if you feel the need to clean them up so strongly, just make sure you wash them well after you're done.

If it is just a few spots here and there, I wouldn't worry about it too much.

Re: Rocker Arms

Ask around for someone with a hand blast booth who has walnut shells as media. It will take the rust off but not even dull the contact surfaces. It also won't do any damage if a few bits stay stuck in there.
