Hi I am from New Zealand and my boss is sending me to Rochester NY in mid April. I want to have a crack at the fishing there.
Will there be fish in the lake at that time? Can anyone reccommend a good charter? Would it be fly fishing, harling or trolling?
Appreciate your replies.

Re: Rochester

lake ontario charters will mostly involve trolling
with downriggers for big lake trout and salmon.
a bit early in the season here, but look at this
link for more info:
http://www.lakeontario.org/

there are also several rivers/creeks/tributaries
of lk. ontario where you can try to hook some
nice ones on a fly. many, many choices...

I'd invite you to fish with me, but won't have
my new boat till end of april/early may.
best of luck,
M.Y.

Re: Rochester

Thanks for that mellow yellow. It does look like I may be there a little early. Are fishing guides an option over in your country? Any idea of the cost?

Thanks again.

There is Seneca Lake at about 50 minutes south and east of Rochester.April is a good time to fish for lake trout off the pier in Geneva which is on the north end of Seneca lake.(Geneva is called the lake trout capital of the world)

Dude, There are so many good lakes within a three hour drive of Rochester!! You should have it made. you have the finger lakes the St lawrence, Black lake, and of course the big lake in your back yard. If it is fish you want you should be in good shape!!!! :)

Smudge:
If you are coming to Rochester, and have the time, I would also suggest a quick trip to Niagara Falls. Seeing the falls is pretty awesome and worth the short Drive. You could even do some Fishing up that way. Some Original Buffalo chicken wings, a trip to house of guitars, and garbage plate at tahoes are also on the short list of posisble things not to miss on a trip to Upstate NY. As far as the Fishing goes, 30 minutes from Rochester is one of my favorite lakes, Canandaigua Lake. Bass and trout as well as the typical panfish can be found.

Enjoy your stay in our city!!!!

Giddyup -

Kramer
