My son and I are in the planning stages of a ride from Rochester or Point Breeze to Toronto this summer. Anyone have suggestions for a marina that will allow a tie-up for two PWC's? We plan to leave early AM and depending on Weather same-day or next AM return. We have places (friends/relatives downtown)to stay overnight, just in case.

Your best bet would be to just Google "Toronto Marinas" and you'll find a bunch listed.

Call around to the marinas closest to your friends and relatives.

It looks like about a 150 mile ride if you hug the coastline. Hopefully you'll have the range to hit Hamilton for refueling.

Hopefully your weather will be good and the waves not too demanding.

Thanks- I emailed the Toronto Port Authority which has a public marina- NO Answer. I will Google and call some others.

We have identified two potential routes each are straight across- 50 (from Point Breeze) or 80 miles (Rochester area) depending on the lake conditions/weather we may choose the appropriate distance. Range obviously varies based on riding conditions, etc. but we have 17 gal fuel tanks.

We have a large number of PWC's running the length of the Tennessee River every year--650 miles. They come with a support staff, including trucks and trailers on the closeby highways and fuel boats and mechanics running with them.

Going across 50 or 80 miles of water in the Great Lakes is pretty dangerous for any boat, muchless a PWC--unless you have a support boat with you.

Only way to safely do the trip is keeping land within eyesight.

Thanks again and especially thanks for the info.. We have fairly extensive experience (6+ years)with offshore riding with and without support boats using vhf or portable gps on certain trips here in the New England coastal waters. Making the right crossing decisions on Lake Ontario would be critical. If we make this ride this will be our very first time on fresh water. The tennessee river ride still sounds fun but very long!!- I was unaware of it. We are also planning the Long beach to Catalina ride on the west coast but maybe in 2014, travel logistics are difficult to say the least.

From Point Breeze, you can see Toronto on a clear day. That being said, watch the weather! I've been on the lake when they claim 1' or less waves and reality is far from it - more like 2-3' waves with white caps. In a 20' boat that wasn't fun so I can only imagine what it'd be like in a jetski.

Wivb.com usually lists the lake forecasts once boating season kicks up so you might want to check there. Point Breeze also has a coast guard or sheriff's station (I forget which) right there so if you run into trouble, you do have authorities available to assist.

As an FYI: I took a ride up to Point Breeze this past weekend and it's about 18-24" lower than normal. Areas that you probably could pass with a jetski in previous years are now dry land.

What time are you planning on making your run? If its over the weekend and you're using the free launch, you might find parking your rig a little interesting as its a small ramp with parking for about 20 rigs at most. Overflow goes onto the streets. There's also a state launch, I believe a $7 fee and I don't believe they allow overnight parking, which has a larger parking area.

Stop over at Brown's Berry Patch when you're finished with your trip for some ice cream

Anything else I can help with??

Oh forgot to mention...when you enter Canadian waters, make absolutely sure you contact customs. There was a big stink up in the 1000 Islands area last year where boaters were not doing this and customs officials were seizing the boats. To get the boats back, you got to pay a $1000 fine to the Canadian govt. You also need to contact them if you anchor in Canadian waters.

Not trying to dissuade you from the trip, just trying to get you up to speed on some of the things going on between the two borders.

Toronto Island Marina, then take the ferry across to the city. There is also Toronto Outer Harbour Marina but no easy public transportation from there. There are a few marinas on the waterfront downtown but I don't think they would accomodate your type of vessel.

Thanks for the detailed information- I was going to make quite a few inquiries to get that information. I have fished from Point Breeze and agree that parking was an issue. I am still working on my plans and will post here as they progress and dates are determined. We will also need to be a bit flexible based on summer storminess etc. Thanks to all the posts this may make it easier for others planning trips.
