Rochester 2 Jet carb flooding ?'s

Hello again all. So lately I've been having some fuel issues. I have an older inline 6 250 ci Mercruiser with a Rochester 7028188 carb. I rebuilt it and it was running ok. Every now and than it loses fuel. I've noticed if I unscrew the top of the fuel pump it releases some pressure and when I put everything back together it regains fuel and back under way I go. That doesn't always work and is getting old quick. Now the carb is flooding and I'm wondering if the pump is putting out too much pressure. How do I check the pressure? Is it possible to install a fuel pressure regulator? I'm going to take the carb apart and check the float. I tried tapping on the carb trying to free the float hoping it's stuck but doesn't seem to work. I ended up getting towed in by vessel assist for the 1st time the other night and it sure wasn't fun. Very happy to be a member atm btw haha. Anyway, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Oh yeah forgot to mention that my starter broke while I was troubleshooting it out on the water. To top it off, after I finally got ready to get pushed on to the trailer by vessel assist the solenoid went out on my hydraulics. What night I had! I've got a new starter and a new solenoid working great after a major pain in the *** trying to locate the two parts. Now to get my fuel problems fixed.

Forget the fuel pressure regulator. I've seen a few installed, but on an older engine with a mechanical pump it's just not necessary. Pump pressure should be 5-7psi.

The first things I would check are the fittings and hardware between the fuel tank and the fuel pump. what you're looking for is one that id leaking and allowing air to be sucked into the system. If there's a spin-on water sep fuel filter, check to make sure the fittings haven't been over-tightened and cracked the filter housing. Just the smallest crack is enough.

As for the carb flooding, that''s probably a separate issue. Going to need to get into the carb to find that one

I have the same problem. OMC 120 hp 2 jet Rochester, 2gc. The boat runs great then floods out. Installed new kit, new needle valve, rubber tip and seat, set float level as per instruction sheets still happens. Pulling my hair out. Even lowered the top float level position to lower fuel levels in increments, same result random flooding. Also no dirt in carb bowel. Just ordered a new float from iboats so will see what that will do.
Thanks

Wabbit, Welcome to iBoats. It's best to open your own thread and ask your question in there. This thread is dealing with jamve's carb...

Is this a marine fuel pump and does it have a hose going to the carb? Marine carbs dont have anything you can unscrew by hand??

Thanks achris, I wasn't thinking about hijacking his thread. I will do that. Thanks

Thanks for the replys. I don't really know if the pump is a marine pump. I'll take some more pics. I unscrew the fuel lines with a flat head. I have a side shot of the carb. I'll take some more pics of the carb and the pump in a bit. IMAG0697.jpg
