I’ve never owned an I/o before. Here’s the deal.
The accelerator pump squirts fuel into the carb throats at a nice full stream….when you pull the throttle control handle BACK!!! Bak towards neutral I tell ya!!!Boy is this counterintuitive! I’m taking the carb off to clear the jets anyway because on my maiden voyage it would only run at 1100 rpm. Under load. It would take a dump and stall the least bit above that. There’s some weird gremlins living in this carb.
My mantra is “it’s always the jets

no gremlins as a Rochester 2 jet is about as simple as it gets. If I had to guess someone reversed the lever that connects the accelerator pump to the pivot shaft in float bowl top.

Look on your tube at mikes carb parts videos he has a bunch of rochester 2 jet and mercarb (very similar later Mercruiser made carb) videos.

You carb has all the signs of being previously messed with during a rebuild. if you have a good core get a rebuild kit and float from mikes and properly rebuild it and you should be fine.

You should also take off your fuel filter and see if anything but fresh clean gasoline is present. Carbs dont get gummed up and stop working by themselves, usually fuel contamination is present

Good advice. Thx.
