Leaving this friday for 10 days in Palm Beach and I can't wait. Just going over last minute items and the such, and was hoping on some long distance trailering tips from some pros. This will be my first long distance trip. I will be pulling a 22' Pursuit 4500lbs with my 1993 Suburban. I rebuilt the entire trailer, brakes, bearings, lights, and rollers. The truck has had routine maintenance and is ready to go. I have spare bearings and a spare tire for the trailer. I will bring a jack, stands, and tools for the boat and trailer. I plan on checking the bearings every time I fuel up. I know the tires should be warm, but not hot, how about the bearings? Is there any advice on highway speeds? Is 75mph too fast? I know the speed limit is 65mph along most of I-95 and the traffic will be moving at 75mph. Any thoughts? How about weight distribution, should I put stuff(gear for the trip) in the vehicle or the boat?

Re: Road trip!!

If the hubs dont feel hot in the first 5 miles at highway speeds, then I wouldn't worry about them.

I would worry about the tranny overheating the most, you rebuilt the trailer,so that should be good.

Transmission coolers are the best investment in my opinion.

make sure the tires (truck and trailer) are properly inflated. it's probably just me, but i always slow a bit when trailering. more for what i can't control- accident in front of me, deer, etc. good luck and enjoy the trip-

Run at least 5mph slower than the 4 wheel racers. It will help to increase your buffer in front of you, give you a better view of whats up ahead, and more stopping distance.

I try to drive in the far right or far left lane as much as possible. This gives you an avenue of escape in an emergency, when you are doing all you can to keep from hitting what is in front of you.

If something happens and you have to pull over, PLEASE pull off the road as far as possible, onto the gravel or grass if you can. It is safer for all, and will be much appreciated by your 18 wheeled buddies.

I pack minimal luggage and tools in the vehicle, and put the rest in the boat.
