You must disconnect the electric shift cable. To do that you must remove the big rear cover from the midsection. You will then see the cable and the disconnects. Once you have it disconnected, see where it enters the midsection? You must remove those covers and pull it off of the cable. Cable is now free to come down with the lower unit----BUT tie something onto it so you can pull it back up when you reinstall.
Now that you have dealt with the cable, remove the big bolt holding the lower unit on at the rear, and lower the gearcase and away.
