I have to replace some rivets on my 1984 Islander, But I do not know the size of the rivets and what type of rivet and rivet gun to buy or rent. If anybody knows, please post it here.
Thank you,Cornelis.

Re: rivet replacement.

It is quite localized. All of 4 rivets on the hull that have loosened up and if I can get to do it just by using some sort of rivet gun from one side it should only be a matter of drilling the originals out and sticking new ones in. If I have to get to them from both sides I will just use stainless steel truss headed phillips bolts and nuts

Re: rivet replacement.

if it's in hull outer skin and below water line, yeah, go with the bolts. blind riveters generally use hollow rivets, not so good for water resistance.

before you yank anything, though, try just rebucking the rivets....you, a friend, and 2 sledges, it's a beautiful thing. a little thinned epoxy resin poured around em on inside of hull (not worth buying a whole quart of Gluvit for this job) and call it good.

What B2 said. And if that don't work the bolts, lockwashers and nuts with 5200......
