River fishing

what is a good bait to use when fishing in a river? I don't care what kind of fish. I fish a lot in the Savanh River.

i have often found that a 1/4 oz black rooster tail will pull fish out of just about anything. if i'm bait fishing, i'll use creek chubs(minnows). what i would do if it were me is find a small creek in the area and seine some minnows for bait.

Live bait - I will use the "wedding ring" type of lure with worm or minnow. A river killer!<br /><br />Artifical - smallest Rapala I can find or 1/4 oz Rooster Tail (Mepps spinners also good). Rooster tail will pick up sunfish and bluegill, rock bass, small mouth bass, large mouth bass, trout, etc. A fun "all-purpose" lure.

since i am so perceptive to ones thoughts, and can discern the true underlying situation, i suggest <br /><br /> just a joke ok<br /><br />if i absolutely had to provide a fish on the line for someone i would use a minnow. with a #2 blued eagleclaw hook, 18" from a 2" bobber of your choice of colors, in a slackwater place. and 2nd choice would be a piece of chicken liver on that hook in the same place. those 2 ideas will get you a probable bite from numerous species of fish(with the understanding that this is a river, and the water is at least 2' deep) <br /><br />if no one has ever caught fish from said waters, then please consult with the nearest governmental fisheries biologist.

For Flatheads:<br />We use live palm sized sunfish hooked through the back of the dorsal fin. We use 5/0 sized circle hooks. Set the bait alert, open the bail up and take a snooze. When you hear that line taking off at two in the morning, you know its flattie time.
