Re: RIP NASCAR **** Trickle
I never met him, but watched him race at several WI tracks over the years.
Will always remember watching him at The MIlwaukee Mile in 1996.
He had yet to get his first Busch Grand National win, and the crowd went absolutely wild when he took the lead in his orange Schneider National car in the late stages of the race.
He led 30-40 laps, and had a good lead (10 sec ?) on the field when he drifted high into the marbles between turns 3 and 4.
He drove the car sideways around 4, then spun a 360 and stopped at the pit entrance, right in front of us.
The entire crowd groaned.
There was like 3 or 4 laps to go, and he was going to get his first Busch win, and then....
People actually started leaving the track.
