I'm looking to down size & can put up with the seating layout of the Rinker Fiesta Vee boats. The one I'm considering buying is a 1994 29' 265 model. It looks good in the photos, comes with a trailer & the asking price is $5,500, which seems to be a good deal. It is a 5 hour drive away.

What are the things I should look out for on this boat? I know to check the deck for soft spots, but this will only be the second boat I've bought & the first real (not pontoon) boat. The boat has a 5.7 Mercury engine.

I don't mind doing a bit of work on the boat as I'm a retired aircraft mechanic. I've done a major restoration on my 1994 Party Cruiser so I'm not intimidated by major work. I prefer not to do major work if I can help it.

top of the forum is only one sticky

read it at a minimum.

your are looking at a 27 year old boat that was designed to last 15

if the deck is soft, the transom and stringers are soft. that is major work. I would walk away

seriously suggest you read this thread thru its entirety, watch every video. https://forums.iboats.com/threads/1995-sea-ray-220-signature-deck-and-stringer-restoration.495449/

Stringers, transom, engine mounting blocks, bulkheads and decks should be sounded for rot. Check the fuel tank for leaks. If the seller allows, a compression test never hurts.
