Rinker Captiva

I have a 1989 Rinker Captiva and I have no idea what this cap is for? It’s on the port side towards the bow. There is no live well on board. I attached a video.

JB...screw off cover that appears to be in the bow/mid section of the boat.

OP...does the drain happen to be anywhere near the glovebox? Some boats had overboard drains for the glovebox to double as a cooler. My Bayliner had that going off memory. Think the Fourwinns did too.

So I lowered the bow of the boat on the trailer and took the cap off. It smelled like gas. What is a overboard drain?

IF it smells like gas, it might be a vent line then. You're going to have to trace it internally to see what it runs to. Usually a vent is located near the gas fill...some are incorporated right into the gas fill. My Chap is separate, about a foot or two lower than the gas fill.

Overboard drains...you'd fill the glovebox with ice and as it melted the water would drain overboard (out) of the boat as opposed to inside to the bilge. Some livewells also have drains so they don't overflow but these are usually low to allow gravity to do the work.

W a screw cap, it is definitely not a fuel vent..

If it smells of fuel, it's probably wise not to use it until you figure it out... sounds like fuel in the bilge.

Actually I think it is a vent, notice the notch in the cap.. actually not a bad idea, makes it easy to clean bugs out..

Vent maybe, but not a fuel vent and shouldn't smell of fuel that far forward.....

That's true, I don't know if he has any indoor plumbing but folks have put fuel down the wrong deck plate...

If so might have a water tank

Water tank fitting should say water.

However on a 35 year old boat, someone could have pumped fuel into the water tank

Could be second tank

Need to trace the hoses

Guy at my dock had his water tank filled by a marina with 50 gal of fuel. Stuff do happen

So I just talked to my buddy that had a 1989 rinker Captiva and it is the gas line vent tube. They put it bow/port side
