The P.O. had all the electronics running off the house battery and had every unit switched at the instument panel. Seperate switch for each unit except the Ship to shore radio. Is this the way to go or is there a better way?

I don't see why you'd need an ON-OFF switch on the instrument panel for every electronic device. Most electronic devices have their own ON-OFF switch.
Perhaps the components you are calling a "switch" are actually circuit breakers. Do they have a designator on them that looks like "AMP" or just "A" for Ampere?
