rewind starter

Evinrude 1991 e10reir I had it off to get the carb cleaned and now it is back on, my problem is when the bolt is tight It jams every thing and can not pull the rope.If i slack off for it to pull easy, the bolt backs off as i pull start it. Got any idea what is wrong???? Thanks for any advice. bsandy

If you had the bolt right out of the assembly then the washer under it moved out of place.-----There is a washer inside the recoil assembly and it needs to be installed properly.------Also there is a tab on the bottom of the starter that must be in a hole in the mount bracket on installation.

Go to shop.evinrude.com, look up your motor for a good parts breakdown of the starter.

it was the little washer at the bottom. working fine now.
