Revo Toro Winch 60 Adjustment......

I'm using it for musky fishing with my lighter baits around 2oz. The problem is there is not enough spool braking. I have the brake/bearing knob adjusted as tight as I can, but it still isn't enough. In the vid that I'm attaching, it appears that there is an adjustment for this. However, how does one get the side cover off? It looks like he just snaps it back into place after showing the adjustments. The vid is little over 2mins. He talks about the adjustments at the 1:20 mark...

Thanks for any help......

Are you casting with it at all? If not, sometimes you can use your free wheel tension to change the drag ratio. Both my Diawa and Shimano's let you do this. I dialed one in yesterday while it was in use. Stopped the back lash during real in and let us setup a heavier drag. I'm not sure if it's supposed to work that way or not but it seems to do the job.

My Luna lets me take the side cover off and play around with the drag washers, I think the Shimano does too but I've spent less time messing with that since I found out about using the free wheel (my terms) tension. Its usually a small knurled knob that controls how easily the spool spins when you've got the release set.

Does that make any sense?

Thanks for the reply.

That's all I do is cast, at least 99% of the time. That's the problem, when I have the knurled knob completely tight it still doesn't give enough tension on the free spool. On my Abu 6500 C4 I can adjust the knob so when I hit the casting button the lure slowly drops. On this reel when I hit the thumb bar the lure drops like a rock.

According to the vid it looks like this can be adjusted if I can get the side plate off w/o wrecking it.

Actually, that sounds like a defect in the assembly process. If its a new reel you should be able to send it in for service. Abu-Garcia has been stepping up lately. I think they've realized that their marketing and manufacturing strategies weren't attracting customers anymore. Given that, you may just get lucky and get it replaced for little or no cost. Shimano has been doing that lately and since they're the ones to beat right now, Abu may follow suit.

You might get a suprise, sometimes my hunches are right.

What are you trying to accomplish with your brakes? Why do you need more braking? Most reels apply way too much braking and I end up removing brakes or disarming the braking system all together.

Remember, the brakes have maximum affect when the spool is accelerating and it drop off significantly once the spool starts to decelerate. If you want to control the spool as its decelerating you need magnetic braking.

The written procedure for adjusting the spool speed is erroneous in that they call for you to use the load the bearing to control the speed. This method works, but you severally limiting your distance using this method.

The spool centering (tension) knob should be set so that the spool has roughly 0.005” of side play so there is no load on the bearing and the spool is free to run as fast as necessary. You then control the acceleration and deceleration of the spool using the braking system.

Once you get proficient you can start plying with different viscosity oils to control your spool speeds.

Re: Revo Toro Winch 60 Adjustment......

I need more braking to throw heavy musky lures. Lightest one being approx. 2oz. up to 6oz. From what I've read and the vid I supplied, it appears I can make an adjustment if I can get the side cover off. There are 3 spring loaded brake blocks that automatically control the spool at the beginning of the cast and disengage to increase distance. There are 3 other blocks that can be adjusted for shorter casts and heavier lures. To access that adjustment, I need to get the side cover off. I don't want to just start prying on it and risk breaking tabs. In the vid it looked like they just snapped it back on. I was hoping someone could tell me how to remove the side cover.

Thanks.....:)

The cover is held on by the frame screw located above and behind the handle. You have to remove the handle to get at it.
