I have a RH, {yes a reverse rotation, clockwise from back of flywheel} 351w in my 74 Mastercraft Ski boat. Can i use a standard oil pump or is there a reverse rotation oil pump?

um, if the crank rotates backwards...then how does the camshaft, distributor, and oil pump not rotate in backwards as well? some goofy big looping type of timing chain?

Thanks for the help, I should have joined here a while ago, looks like I'll be changing the seals to accommadate the reverse rotation.

Ayuh,... Like Bubba says, ya swap the chain set for gears,...

Thanks Bubba,... Learned somethin' today....

I wonder what these timing gears look like? you can get gears for auto applications but they still retain the standard timing rotation. consists of 4 gears.

man I'm curious....to google I go! hi-ho silverware!!

edit: I love learning new things! :)

makes perfect sense now that I see it with my own eyes.

Re: Reverse rotation Ford 351w Oil pump

here's a question related to the OP post. does the ford reverse rotation engine ONLY use the timing gear setup or can it use the timing gear setup OR the timing chain setup as shown in this picture?

such as, should he pull the timing cover first to know which set he'd need to find?

Stackz,
My setup started with the reverse rotation chain drive, when i just had it rebuilt I used a set of gears from auto application (4 gears) which didn't affect the rotation, now I have another concern--after searching the web I have read it is best to turn my crank @ machine shop since this crank started as auto, not to mention I need to replace the seals with RR seals as staed above. Any advice from the mighty??

That photo is of my Chrysler Marine M440. The gear set is from a Chrysler industrial 413.
