Can someone help me with how the reverse lock arm works. When I shift into reverse the motor (1965 Model 500) jumps out of the water. The two teeth do not drop down on the trim rod to lock the motor in position.

Re: Reverse lock

There should be a rod that actuates your lock. The cam should be located on the shift shaft. sometimes the plastic gear cam gets worn or dirty and the mechanism hangs up. try working it manually to see if its just stuck.
