I have read a lot of post & think I know the direction I need to take, I am looking for any advise I can get. I purchased an 87 Four Winns 245 Vista with an 5.7 OMC & I think a Cobra out drive. I got the boat cheap as a bank short sale, it was stored at a marina storage lot. Before I purchased it I had the mechanic at the marina go over it for me & make sure it was mechanically sound since cosmetically the but was "but ugly". I figured I could handle the cosmetics since I am a carpenter & OK at mechanical work, but try to avoid it cause I typically find myself drinking more beer then I should to keep my nerves calm. The mechanic didn't find any trouble with the motor or out drive, it ran well out of the water & went in & out of drive & reverse fine. I put the boat in the water, it backed off the trailer & in & out from the dock a few times fine. Then it decided it didn't want to go in reverse any more. It runes great in drive but laughs at me when I try to engage it into reverse.
From all I have read it sounds like it could be as simple as a cable adjustment. I don't have a repair manual & would really like to get the boat back in the water this week. My wife's birthday is this week end & I would much rather spend the day on the water then do the whole flowers & dinner thing. Can any one help me to link up to some instruction with diagrams on how to properly remove the out drive & adjust the cable. I hope I can do this with less the a case of beer, so any tips to make this easier would be great.
