How does one find out what the RPM setting is for a rev limiter? I have a 2004 50ELPTO, with a WOT range of 5000-5500 RPMs. The service manual I have (for a 1998 model) does not mention the specification (that I can find). I believe the part number for the rev limiter is 821889A50.

And does the motor make any telltale sounds when the rev limiter kicks in or does it simply not rev any faster?

Thanks,
Mike

If I remember correctly 6200rpm comes to mind. If engine exceeds this preset it (limiter) grounds out the CDM modules. It will act like engine is missing until rpm is lowered.

Re: Rev Limiter RPM 50ELPTO

That makes sense. I guess the reason it sounds like it's missing is because it is missing! And if 6200 is correct, that's not what's happening to me since I'm only making it to 5800. I failed to explain my reason for asking, but my engine is over-revving due to the wrong prop pitch and sometimes when it does, I get what sounds like either detonation or cavitation (or possibly the rev limiter, hence my original question). I'm not experienced enough to know which one. The bottom line is I try to keep the RPMs below 5500 anyway since that's the upper range for my motor. Once I get the correct prop on it should be a moot point.

Thanks for your help.
Mike
