So what have you been investing in for your retirement so far?

Everyone is different and needs varied amounts of money in retirement. We don't know how much you have saved, how many years you are still working...

Sort of a tough thing to recommend on a boating site.

Bruce has given you some sage advise. Not enough info here to give you good advise other than what Bruce has said. There are lot's of good mutual funds out there. There are lot's of good investment strategies. I could list off several, but without enough info (and that would be way more than you would want to put out to the world on an open forum) you are just throwing darts. Find a financial planner that you can trust. Find several. Ask them all for a plan. Give them the info they request and see what they come up with. Then, based on their personality and what they present, go with the one you like, that you can talk to, that makes you feel good about your investment and what they will do for you. Trust is huge in this.

I have been doing quite a bit of investigation on the net before contacting anyone, that way, I know the right questions to ask, often times, I have found that some of the online investment companies are pretty good, then some of them have a really bad track record. But for sound advise you are going to have to talk with a company that knows the markets and such to come up with a sound plan.

I made my decisions long time ago decades before I retired to invest in a few different type investments. And not all into the same type investments either. That way if one thing goes belly up, I have three or more fall backs. One investment I did start was a ROTH IRA. Never ever regretted that one. It still growing and when I decide to pull that money out, it is totally tax free as well. Can't ask for a better investment... Just diversify your investments and leave them as long as you can...
