Retaining Screw OMC Cobra

1988 4.3l OMC Cobra

I'm curious about a "retaining screw" near the water entrance on the starbird side of the lower unit. What does this screw hold? I was going to replace the washer on it but was too scared to take it out. (Thinking maybe it was another mystery screw like the one on the port side upper)

The screw holds the intake screen inside the water inlet. No reason to remove it. If you do, the screen may drop. So, don't mess with it.
