I don't know who made Sears' boats. Here's the specs/weight on my 1979 Lund 14' (Model S14); specs are from the identiplate:

Max HP: 35
Boat weight: 295
Max weight of persons: 600 (Lund didn't spec max # persons)
Max weight (persons, motor, gear): 895

Of course, the actual specs for your boat are almost certainly different. For example, Lund's catalog for 1979 shows 3 different 14' boat models. Max HP among those boats ranges from 15 to 35 HP. Weights are significantly different, too. Hope somebody can give you some more reliable information.

I have a 1962 sears 14 ft boat and my data tags are not legable any more. I have had this boat for 35 years. I am sure mine is rated for 30 HP and 650 lbs passengers and cargo.

Transom height is part of the HP calculations

A picture would help. Is it a jonboat or a v-hull? I have an 35 year old Crestliner 14' V-hull that is rated for 35hp and 980# total load. Yours may vary a lot depending on the dimensions of the boat, mostly in the beam, transom height, and hull design.

A 58 Feathercraft I'm considering, 14ft Semi-V is rated for an 18hp max, so I'd suggest the low end of the scale, @fitzy61 15hp +/- until pix or more Intel prove otherwise
