I recently restored the trailer for my 17' Glastron 175. Since im restoring the boat, http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=281546 i figured the trailer should be done first as i will need to pull it around. I started by removing all the bunks, (which pulled off by hand), and the axle, springs, old lights etc then wire brushed the whole frame with a grinder attachment. I fabricated new mounts for the bunks out of flat steel, and welded them in place, and also fabbed up some new keel roller mounts. I then used 'Ospho' on the whole thing to knock the surface rust back, put 2 coats of industrial primer then two coats of industrial grey enamel and i think it looks pretty good. I fitted and wired up all the lights, including adding a marker light to each front frame, i gave the axle and springs the same treatment as the trailer, and re-installed it using new hardware. One of the hubs was re-used as i replaced the bearings and races but the other had a lot of pitting on the wheel mounting face so i replaced it with a new unit. I replaced the bunks by using pressure treated 2x4's and covering them with bunk carpet. To finish the job off i attached new safety chains, a new wheel for the jack and two 15" alloy wheels from a ford explorer!! (although i had to search hard for nuts to match the stud thread and correct wheel shoulder angle). Also got some diamond plate aluminium, (used semi truck rear dual fenders), and have cut it to fit the areas in front and at the rear of the fenders. Will polish them up then drill em and rivet them in, should look pretty tidy, and give me a place to stand when accessing the boat. (Ill post the pics when done). Well that's it, hope you like it.

Nice trailer resto!

Where did you find the v blocks to set the boat on? They look like they could come in handy, especially if they were put on wheels.

Thanks, the boat stands im using are actually stands to set plastic tanks on so they won't cave in while being stored on the yard. They are very lightweight as they are, themselves made from tank material, (polyethelyne), and are hollow but extremely strong. They just happened to by lying there and i thought, hmmmm they could work, non the less they are perfect for the hull shape of this boat. Im going to keep a set as we have hundreds of the things lying around my place of work.

Are they a shipping or packing type of item? I am wondering if a local company or some sort here might use them or have them laying around?

What type of tanks do they support?

I work for a 'branch off', of company that builds crop sprayers, water trailers and tanks. We have all of our own tank mould's and a plant that builds them, these stands were built by us to support out 1000gal tanks.
