Restart problems with Yamaha 70

Looking from some advice from the experts on this great site.

I've just purchased a 1988 Yamaha 70 2stroke, which generally starts first or second time.

If I switch off the engine after running for 15 mins or so, as soon as I try to restart there is no power to starter or any electrics, yet battery seems to be full of charge.

I then have to manual start engine (works first time). Then coming back a few days later, electrical restart is possible.

Trim tilt while engine is operating also seems to work intermittantly and several gauges don't work.

I'm working through all of the electrics, but any ideas what could be causing such an intermittant fault?

Thanks

Re: Restart problems with Yamaha 70

You may already be doing this, but I would first check the battery cable connections at the battery and at the engine side, including the ground. On more than 1 occasion your story has happened to me either at the ramp or even on the water and all that was necessary was to tighten the wing nut on the battery cable.
