Went catfishing Sat night and caught a 20-25 snapping turtle, this things head was 4''-5'' across, took a bunch of pictures of it and went to cut the line because I don't keep them.

I pulled it way out of the water to stretch its neck out and cut the line, got about 3'' from it head when I saw it lunge, it was REALLY fast.

By the time I saw it move it was over, all it did was take a tiny bit of skin off the top of my thumb btu it scare the life out of me, got me right at the base of the knuckle on my thumb so it could have taken half my finger if it wanted to, I htink I am very very fortunate and from now on I won't be getting any closer than 12''.

Re: Respect the tutrle

Yeah, I have told people that here before, they don't want to hurt the turtle, but the turtle dosn't respect that sensitivity. You simply cannot believe how far they can stretch that neck out, when they want to bite something. They just don't bite and let go either, they clamp down and hang on. The old folk wisdom was that they won't let go, until it thunders!
