Hello, new boater here. I have a clear reservoir to the right of my engine and I’m not sure what it’s for. I do not have trim tabs. Is this the trim for the lower arm? I have a MerCruiser 4.3 stern drive. Do marine engines require a specific type of oil other than the correct weight?
sorry for the Rookie questions. Thanks for any help.

Hello, new boater here. I have a clear reservoir to the right of my engine and I’m not sure what it’s for.

I am new to boating as well, and I don't know the "protocol" for when I can answer questions - but I know this one! This is your trim/tilt motor, pump, and fluid. At one point in time, there was a label right next to that yellow cap that said " Use 10w30 motor oil". Some people use automatic transmission fluid (like the PO of mine did). That is the hydraulic pump that works the trim on your motor. It connects to the hydraulic cylinders on the sides of your outdrive to push it out to trim out/up, and in for trim in/down.

I am in a battle with mine right now. After repairing my motor and pump, I found both of my trim cylinders cracked and losing the fluid.
