Re: reseal water impeller

No gaskets are used down there, Joe. If you completely dismantled the gearcase, there are some seals to reinstall, but if you only replaced the impeller simply reassemble the parts you took out. Be sure that the impeller is "folded" in the right direction and lubed with a bit of soap (I use dishwashing liquid).

Good luck.
Red sky at night. . .
JB :)

Don't replace the previously used sealant.

Look at the direction that the starter turns the crankshaft and driveshaft (usually CW, looking down the shaft) the arms should trail the hub.

Good luck.

Red sky at night. . .
JB :)

Re: reseal water impeller

Joe, we've installed two impellars this past summer for the first time(don't ask :) . At first we thought it was the wrong size because it was so much larger than the housing. Then we (I) came up with the hose clamp idea. Use a large hose clamp to encase the lubed impellar then turn each fin so it will drag behind as it would in a clockwise turn. Our manual said to turn the crankshaft clockwise. Then bring down the housing just to cover the top bent tips of the impellar inside. Once the top of the impellar is inside the housing, release the hose clamp and quickly push the rest of the housing to cover it. Good Luck :)
wa3ipb's Wifey :)

When the hub (and driveshaft) turns, the tips of the arms follow behind the base of the arms.

Good luck, Joe.
Red sky at night. . .
JB :)

Re: reseal water impeller

If you did it backwards, Joe, it will fail within seconds or correct itself. Unfortunately, the former is more likely.

Good luck.
Red sky at night. . .
JB :)

Re: reseal water impeller

JB when you say that it will fail within seconds what are you referring to ?. Water is just spitting out of the exhaust not really a steady stream at all. The motor is still running like crap. runs a few minutes and shuts itself down. and then it will not restart until the motor has cooled down. Some body else is having the same problem on the board so i will watch that thread and see what happens next. Thx
