My old '77 24' Aquasport has a max HP label for 200hp. What am I opening myself up for if I repower with a new 225hp?

Re: Repowering

That sure seems like a low Hp rating for a boat that size. I would not see any problems at all.

Re: Repowering

The only problem may be a liability or insurance question, especially in the event of an accident. If your replacing a pre 1985 motor with a new one, you will find the newer one will have more power, since they were rated at the powerhead prior to 1985. After 1985, they are rated at the propshaft.

Re: Repowering

Hi H-D,
Most all boats these days over 20 ft don't have a H.P. rating. If the Transom core is solid and dry you could run what you want as long as your state doesn't have any special regulations.
Happy Holidays,
corm

------------------
cubic inches = power
power = speed
speed = FUN

Re: Repowering

There is a 2000 225 Optimax listed in the classified ads for $ 8400. That would work great.
