My friend has a 22' Twin Vee with two 2001 Ficht Evinrude 115s. He just blew the powerhead on one of them. Both engines have about 600 hours on them. My question is what to do?

A new Evinrude E-tec 115 is about $10k, so $20k for a pair. It is $6k to have the powerhead rebuilt on his Ficht. Ideally, he would just replace the bad engine but then the engines won't match. Can you have non-matching 115s on a boat without causing issue?

If the other mtr is running strong, he should have no prob with rebuilding the blown one. But you also have to remember the Fichts don't have that good of a reputation.

Re: Repowering question

Sell both, one as a parts motor and put the money into new engines.
