I have a used boat with a 30" transom, but I own a 25" single outboard. Besides buying a new engine with a 30" shaft, is there a cheaper way to mate the two. I've looked at Armstong outboard engine brackets and have considered having one made locally. Any ideas? My boat is a 24' Bayliner Trophy (project boat-bought it dirt cheap and abused). The boat will take up to 300 hp, but right now I have a 100 hp commercial just to get me around the lake (not interested in sking just motoring around).

Re: Repower

Since we're guessing you dont want to cut the transom, a bracket or set back is the easiest thing to do. Rule of thumb - for every 5" you go back you can go up 1". So, with a decent 3 blade prop you can probably run the X dimension at about 26" to 27". With a good 4 blade prop you can run around 28" or so. You could probably use a 10" manual jackplate and, depending on your prop choice, add the 2" spacers to the jackplate if needed.

It would also help to know what motor you have and the angle of the transom.

Good luck!

Another thing that allows a higher X dimension is one of the larger fins. Something that starts in the front and goes past the back of the anti vent plate. Something like a King Fin will allow for about another 2".

It's not that unusual to see a 20" motor on a 25" transom, which is basically what you are dealing with.

Good luck!
