I am planning on repowering my 1998 Boston Whaler Outrage, after the 98' 200HP Mercury EFI recently seized, and would appreciate any thoughts or personal experiences with this boat. I am considering going to a new Yamaha 225 4 stroke, but would be interested in hearing input into other options including twins. The boat is rated to 700lbs engine weight/300HP, and I would like to keep it around 600lbs max. I fish mostly 20-30 miles out in the Gulf of Mexico, with a fuel capacity of 125 gallons. Thanks

I thought the 1998 21 outrage had a recommended horsepower of 175 hp? Anyhow the newer optimax engines have a much better rep than the mercury outboards from a few years back.

The 2004 Mercury 200 Optimax weigs a hair under 500lbs I believe. Also there is a promotion going on right now. 2 more years on warranty (5 total) plus $600 cash back for the 200 or 225 opti's.

I would guess your 21 outrage is gonna need to be re-rigged anyway. The new optis use 'smartcraft'. So whether you switch engine manufacturers or not you should budget for the re-rigging.
