So I bought trim senders to replace the ones that should have been there on my 140 mercruiser and according to the booklet there should have been a color code like purple and blue on the connectors. Of course my connectors all had a perfect black. (Thank you Sierra).
This is mostly about installation possibilities. I can go through the gimbal housing or just go the easy way through the transom and afterwards sealing the hole.
How did you guys do it? And what to do if the bolt(s) holding the retainer cover refuse to move but break instead?
Please give me your opinions and advice.

Re: Replacing trim senders on alpha drives.

I have never replaced trim senders without going through the hole in the gimbal housing that was designed for them (I have NEVER bored a hole in the transom )... And I have never broken the retainer bolt either.

As for the colour coding, as long as you have the sender going to the gauge wires and the switch going to the trim pump circuits, orientation is irrelevant...

Re: Replacing trim senders on alpha drives.

Go through the gimbal assembly as it was meant . . . That is actually the easier and best way.

if you break one of the retaining screws, you can either pull it out or even drill a new screw hole right next to it, if all else fails. You still should have enough adjustment in the mounting slot.

The connectors on the wiring are male and female, so they go together in that fashion. :)
